2016 Gladhander Auction & Vehicle Giveaway with Serra Traverse City

TRAVERSE CITY, Mich., – We are once again excited to be a part of the 2016 Gladhander Auction &Vehicle Giveaway at Serra Traverse City! This year, we are giving away a 2017 Cadillac XT5 or $32,000 cash!

The 2016 Gladhander Auction event will benefit the Grand Traverse Area Catholic Schools. Last year we were able to raise $402,531 to support the availability of top-notch education to GTACS students. As well as the grand prize of the 2017 Cadillac XT5 or $32,000 cash, there are an additional 10 cash prizes available when you purchase a raffle ticket at Serra of Traverse City.

The Gladhander Main Event will take place on Saturday, October 29. You can purchase raffle tickets for $125 each, $200 for two, or $250 for three. You do not need to be present at the event to claim your prize. 

There will also be a free Preview Night for adults only, at Holy Angels Elementary/St. Francis High School. This event was designed to allow the public to enjoy the decorations for the event. Refreshments will be served.

Serra Cares Community Involvement in Traverse City

TRAVERSE CITY, Mich., – It's been an exciting year for Serra of Traverse City. One of our biggest focuses this year has been to get more involved with our community and the incredible organizations within it. We're proud to continue initiating new community partnerships while also maintaining our involvement with the annual relationships our team has built with local organizations. Our team members who live in and around the Traverse City area, have worked hard to do their part to make our community a great place to live and work. We're more than honored to be able to continue to sponsor, host, and take part in events around the Traverse City area!

Serra Cares Community Involvement in Traverse City

This past March, Serra of Traverse City was humbled to be involved in the 11th Annual Katie Heinz Memorial Basketball Tournament. Katie Heinz was a basketball player with a big heart and trademark positive attitude, who passed away at the age of 16 to Leukemia. The tournament to honor Katie was held on March 5th at St. Francis High School, where the teachers and students competed in a series of not-quite-official-rules games! Not to mention, the student team was coached by Serra Traverse City’s very own Jerry Zezulka! All players in the tournament sported #32 jerseys with the catchphrase "Keep Believin'!" to honor Katie's spirit. Over $14,000 was raised from this event, and was donated to the new Cowell Family Cancer Center at Munson Hospital in Traverse City! 

Grand Opening Week at Serra of Traverse City

In May, we began our Grand Opening Week Celebration at Serra of Traverse City. On Tuesday, May 10th, 2016, as a part of our Grand Opening, Serra of Traverse City proudly presented a check to the Father Fred Foundation of Traverse City for $7,577 – all of which was donated in partnership with Subaru of America's Share the Love Event where contributions from each vehicle sale in December and January were collected to support the foundation.

Then, on Wednesday May 11th, 2016, we celebrated and offered thanks to our wonderful Veterans and Active Troops with a free steak lunch at our South Campus location, home to our Subaru and Cadillac dealerships. We were proud to be able to serve 125 Veterans lunch, but we’re setting an even higher goal for ourselves next year to serve 250 Veteran lunches!

On Friday May 13th, 2016, we celebrated our loyal guests with free burgers, hot dogs, and Moomers ice cream at our Customer Appreciation Luncheon. We had a blast encouraging everyone who attended to sign up for the exciting prizes that would be raffled off after the Serra Cares 5K the next day.

Last but not least, the inaugural Serra Cares 5K took place on Saturday, May 14th, 2016 in partnership with 9&10 News to benefit Camp Quality of Michigan – a non-profit camp that serves children with cancer by allowing them to attend camp in August at no cost to their family. Throughout the Grand Opening Week, we collected donations of $50 per vehicle sold to add to the donations raised through race registration and vendor contributions. Despite the cold weather we had an amazing time, and raised a total of $8,000 for Camp Quality of Michigan. We were even lucky enough to be joined by two of Camp Quality's campers, who gave out medals and smiles at the finish line! We couldn't have been more excited about the outcome of our Serra Cares 5k, and look forward to an even better event next year!

Maintaining and Creating Local Relationships

Building on the positive community relationships our team has built over the years, we are honored to continue to foster local relationships with community organizations and events like the TC Patriot Game, Grand Traverse Area Catholic Schools Gladhandler Auction, the Detroit Red Wings, the Iceman Cometh Challenge, and more. Many of these annual events are taking place soon, so read on to learn how you can get involved!

Serra Traverse City is proud to be an annual sponsor of one of Traverse City's most honorable events, the TC Patriot Game. The players of Traverse City Central High School and Traverse City West High School will challenge each other in an exciting game that will be held on Friday, September 9th, 2016. Another quickly approaching event is the arrival of the Detroit Red Wings hockey team. Every year the Wings come to train and hone their skills for the upcoming season in the Cherry Capital area. 1. Wraps

August is National Brake Safety Awareness Month!

TRAVERSE CITY, Mich., – August is National Brake Safety Awareness Month! Are you doing everything you should to keep yourself safe on the road? Your brakes are one of the most important systems in your vehicle. Without them, you wouldn’t be able to stop your car! It’s extremely dangerous to operate a vehicle with faulty brakes, so be sure to schedule a service appointment at the Serra Service Center if you think there may be a problem with your vehicle’s brake system. Here are some signs that you need to have your brakes checked:

1. High Pitched Squeaking Noise

If you’ve noticed a high pitched screech when you apply your brakes, it’s time to replace your brake pads. Brake pads come with a wear indicator that makes the loud screeching noise to let you know it’s time to have your vehicle serviced.

2. Grinding Noise

If you hear a grinding noise when you attempt to stop your vehicle, you’ve likely worn completely through your brake pads. This noise happens when the metal disc and caliper rub together, often damaging your rotors. This fix is much more costly than simply replacing your brake pads, which is why it’s important to have your brakes checked at least once a year.

3. Brake Pedal Vibrations

If you step on the brakes and feel the pedal vibrate under your foot, this is a sign of warped rotors. Be sure to schedule an appointment at the Serra Service Center if you notice this happening in your vehicle.

4. Pulling

When there is a problem with your brakes, you may notice the wheel wants to pull to one side when you engage the brakes. Pulling is also a sign of poor tire alignment, so be sure to have a service technician check out your vehicle if you notice any type of pulling on the steering wheel.

5. Dashboard Brake Light Illuminates

This is an obvious sign that something is wrong with your brake system. If you see the brake light illuminated on your dashboard, it’s time to schedule a service appointment! This light could be on for a number of reasons, so be sure to have it diagnosed as soon as possible.

This list includes only a few of the signs that could mean your vehicle is having difficulties with the brake system. Since August is National Brake Safety Awareness Month, we want to be sure to remind everyone how important it is to have your brakes serviced at least once a year! “Subaru Loves Learning” Initiative at Serra Traverse City

TRAVERSE CITY, Mich., – The month of August often signals the end of summer and the beginning of a new school year. For many children, the start of a new school year is exciting, with the promise of new clothes and new school supplies, fresh books and clean notepads. But for many students these necessities are not a reality. The “Subaru Loves Learning” initiative at Serra Traverse City will help provide necessary supplies to Ms. Stremlow's kindergarten classroom at Eastern Elementary! With help from the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) and AdoptAClassroom.org, the "Subaru Loves Learning" initiative aims to provide students across the country with supplies and books they may otherwise go without. For a list of necessary supplies and more information, visit our website!

With the help from the AAAS, Subaru plans to donate over 40,000 science books to schools in need across the country. Additionally, 1,500 books will be donated to schools in Camden, NJ, the future home of the U.S. Subaru headquarters.

AdoptAClassroom.org partners with Subaru to provide supplies to teachers. This partnership will provide 300 kits of supplies to teachers. Each kit contains materials for 25 students, benefitting 8,000 children across the country. You can stop by Serra Traverse City to fill out a thank you card for your favorite educator, or take a picture with our display to post on your personal social media sites.

 

As well as physical donations to schools in need, Subaru is encouraging its customers to sign customized book labels, or thank you cards for teachers, to add a personal touch to the already incredible work being done through the "Subaru Loves Learning" initiative. It is estimated that these partnerships will benefit more than 50,000 students across the country.

August is National Family Fun Month

TRAVERSE CITY, Mich., – August is National Family Fun Month! If you have kids, or even if you don’t, we’ve compiled a list of fun family activities for Family Fun Month! Whether you’re looking for something to get everyone out of the house, or something to do on a rainy day, this list has something for every family!

1. Family Movie Night

The hardest part of this activity will be picking a movie that everyone agrees on. Make some popcorn and put on your pajamas to enjoy a relaxing night with the family.

2. Go to the Movies

If you’re looking for something to get your family out of the house, heading to the movie theatre is always a good idea. This option is a little more expensive depending on the size of your family. If you’re trying to stay on a budget, opt for the cheaper version at home.

3. Cook a Meal Together

The little ones always love to help when you’re cooking, so give everyone a job and make cooking dinner a family affair. You could also try something that is easy to personalize, like pizza!

4. Family Game Night

This one is sure to please everyone! Each family member can pick his or her favorite board or interactive game. Spend the whole night playing everyone’s choices!

5. Make a Craft Together

Find a fun craft on Pinterest and make it together! You can find one for the older kids and the younger kids, or have the older kids act as helpers for the younger ones. This DIY aquarium in a mason jar could probably work for many age groups.
