TRAVERSE CITY, Mich., – Labor Day is the unofficial end of summer in Michigan. It’s just about time to start bringing the boats in, but there’s still time to get in one last weekend getaway! Holland, Michigan

For a different view of the water, head 3 hours south of TC to Holland, home of the famous tulip festival. Here you can see the shores of Lake Macatawa and enjoy the trendy shopping areas. If you want to stay on the water for Labor Day, and have a relaxing getaway, head down to Holland!

Mackinac Island, Michigan

100 miles northeast of Traverse City is one of Michigan’s most-loved destinations. To get to Mackinac Island, you’ll need to ride a ferryboat across the Straits of Mackinac. Once you arrive, you’ll find the peaceful sound of horses pulling carriages down the road and the smell of fudge wafting from the numerous fudge shops!


Manistee National Forest

About 70 miles directly south of Traverse City, you’ll find yourself in the heart of Manistee National Forest. Almost 100,000 acres of public land offers tons of places to camp, fish, and hike. It’s the perfect long weekend getaway for Labor Day!
