National Tire Safety Week with Nissan

National Tire Safety Week with Nissan

TRAVERSE CITY, Mich.–– This week marks National Tire Safety Week, and now is the perfect time to learn just why your tires and caring for them is so important. The tires on your vehicle are one of the biggest safety components and are responsible for keeping your vehicle rolling the right way on the road. Thanks to one of our wonderful vehicle brands, Nissan, we've got some tips to help you best care for your tires. Let's all celebrate National Tire Safety Week with Nissan!

This week is all about reminding consumers to check their tires all year long, but especially during the summer. As Memorial Day has ended, summer has unofficially begun and that means it's time for road trips in the hot sun. Keeping your vehicle's tires in check means properly maintaining air pressure and tread wear. Doing this will not only help extend the life of your tires, but help you achieve the best fuel economy, engine performance, and most importantly keep you safe on the road! What can you do to make this happen? Follow the tips below to get started:

-Inflate Your Tires Properly:

Checking your tires air pressure is typically done with a tire gauge which measures in PSI (pounds per square inch of air pressure). Having properly inflated tires can help you achieve good fuel economy and extend the life of your tires. If your tires are under inflated, your car will have to work harder to move which means you'll be spending more on gas. You can find the recommended tire pressure on the sticker on the inside of the driver's door, or in your Owner's Manual. Nissan wants to remind you that temperatures fluctuate throughout the year and can affect your tire's air pressure. It's best to check your tires in the morning at least once per month for the most accurate reading.

"Checking tire pressure for just a few minutes each month can help protect your family, improve vehicle performance and lengthen the life of tires," said Sarah Cardinali, senior manager, Product Safety, Nissan North America. "Our innovative Easy-Fill Tire Alert system helps drivers fill their tires to their recommended inflation rating with ease."

-Rotate and Balance Your Tires Regularly:

Another routine maintenance task to help you achieve best fuel economy and extended tire life is rotating them! This is a task that should be done every 5,000-7,000 miles or about every other oil change. Tires can wear differently depending on their location, rotating them regularly will help cut down on uneven tread wear so they are all on the same page, so to speak. Having your tires balanced will also help to minimize premature wear.

-Keep Your Vehicle's Load Weight in Check:

While your tires hold the entire weight of your vehicle, they can only hold a certain amount of excess weight. Nissan recommends not overloading past your vehicle's recommended rating to avoid potential tire blowouts. Excessive weight on or in your vehicle can lead to weaker tires and possible damage. Make sure to check your Owner's Manual to find the rating specific to your vehicle.

-Inspect Your Tires Tread Wear:

There are no special tools needed to inspect your tires wear. Your eyes will work just fine. Taking a look every few weeks or so for damage, cracking, under inflation, and uneven tread wear is the easiest way to tell if your tires need care! For an easy way to check tread wear, try the penny method! If by sticking your penny in upside down in your tire's tread you can see all of Abraham Lincoln's head, it's time to get new tires.

Hopefully these tips have helped you learn about the importance of tire maintenance. National Tire Safety Week with Nissan is one we want to fully embrace and help you embrace as well! We'd be happy to inspect your tires at your next oil change to make sure you're running safely on the road.

2017 Audi TT Is a Sporty Everyday Driver

2017 Audi TT Is a Sporty Everyday Driver

TRAVERSE CITY, Mich.––If you're looking for a little luxury, a little fun, and driver-centric features to come with your car, the 2017 Audi TT might just be what you're looking for. The TT is now at its third-generation and has been fully redesigned. It'll be available in the TT, TTS Coupe, and convertible models. While the design on the outside might speak pure sport, the interior features and driving experience make it clear that the 2017 Audi TT is a sporty everyday driver.

Although the exterior may look similar to the 2016 model, the 2017 Audi TT is more defined which makes it a more narrow car. The new headlamps, grille, and hood resemble a bit of the R8 and make the stance look mean and stealthy. Audi purposefully looked to their R8 supercar for design inspiration.

The interior of the 2017 Audi TT also takes on a more sporty feel with a driver-centric cockpit. Details like the dash shape, round vents, and all around cabin layout makes the TT feel like a sports car on the inside. The new Audi Virtual Cockpit display is a 12.3-inch screen connected with steering wheel controls, and a touch pad on the center console. The interior will feel better for passengers with more legroom plus more active safety features like secondary brake assist.

While the car speaks sport in terms of design, the 2017 TT will not include a manual gearbox. It will include a 2.0L turbocharged inline 4 which makes for up to 220hp, while the TTS will get up to 292hp. The lighter body makes the TT feel more nimble and achieves 60 mph in 5.3 seconds; the TTS in 4.6 seconds. Thanks to the electronic systems help to elevate the experience by creating sporty sounds that reach the cabin for a satisfying sporty driving feel. Not to mention Audi Drive Select is a system included that allows the driver to adjust the stability behavior, throttle sensitivity, and range of powertrain.

All these features combined make the 2017 Audi TT a sporty everyday driver suitable for any driver who wants just a little more out of their car. and is slated to reach dealerships before this fall. If you want to check out all the Audi TT has to offer now, we'd be happy to show you. Whatever you're looking for in a vehicle, we'll help you find it! We've not only great options within the Audi brand, but six other brands as well! Whether it's a car, truck, SUV, crossover, sports car, or van that you need, we'll find just the one for you.

2017 Subaru Outback & Legacy New Features and Trim Levels

TRAVERSE CITY, Mich.––Two of Subaru's best-selling vehicles, the 2017 Outback and Legacy, will be rolling into dealerships later this summer. While they're already great vehicles, this year they'll have just a little more to offer you in comfort, appearance, and safety. The 2017 Subaru Outback & Legacy new features and trim levels are something you'll want to know about when you're in the new car market.

Subaru provides extremely reliable and long-lasting vehicles already, so these new features and trim levels are just icing on the cake. All Subarus, including sedans like the Legacy, come with AWD making everyday just a little easier. But there's so much more that these stand-out vehicles have to offer. Let's take a look at the new features and trim levels of the 2017 Subaru Outback & Legacy.

2017 Subaru Outback & Legacy New Features and Trim Levels

The Outback Touring models will now be available with a 2.5L-175hp-4cylinder OR a 3.6L-256hp-6cylinder engine. The 2017 Outback will feature a dark grey grille, low-profile roof rails in silver, chrome accents, and 18" wheels with a machined finish. The color "Brilliant Brown" will now be an option for the 2017 Subaru Outback.

But what's on the inside? All Touring models will include a smooth Java Brown interior, perforated leather-trim upholstery, ivory stitching, woodgrain interior finish, piano-black panel accents, and a heated steering wheel for our cold Michigan days.

Brand new to the 2017 Outbacks is the Reverse Automatic Braking which can help stop or avoid a potential crash or accident while in reverse. This system is quite advanced, using 4 ultrasonic sensors located on the rear bumper to sense the potential threat. Also new, the High Beam Assist feature which works in conjunction with the EyeSight feature to switch the headlights from high and low beam when there's an oncoming vehicle. Not new, but rather standard are Subaru's EyeSight Driver Assist, Blind Spot Detection, and Rear Cross Traffic Alert safety features.

2017 Subaru Legacy

2017 Subaru Outback & Legacy New Features and Trim Levels

The 2017 Legacy sedan will come with new exclusive styling features, much like the Outback. The Legacy will include a dark grey grille, newly designed 18" sport-styled wheels, and silver-finished turn signal mirrors. On the inside of the Legacy you'll find two-tone grey and black cloth upholstery with blue-stitching. Piano-black panels and steering wheel switches, plus a carbon fiber pattern dash and door panel trim complete the entire look.

The 2017 Legacy Sport trim will offer Reverse Automatic Braking and the High Beam Assist which will be included as a part of the optional EyeSight Driver Assist Technology package. The Subaru Legacy will come, of course, standard with Symmetrical AWD and a 2.5L, 175hp, Lineartronic CVT Subaru Boxer engine. This sporty and capable sedan achieves a combined EPA-estimated 29mpg.

Tips for Motorcycle Safety

Tips for Motorcycle Safety

TRAVERSE CITY, Mich.––When the weather gets warmer, the open road calls for adventure! This also means there will inevitably be more motorcyclists on the road. Whether or not you're the motorcyclist, motorcycle safety is extremely important. May is Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month and we want to keep riders and drivers alike safe on the road. To keep you and your fellow road mates safe, we've got some tips for motorcycle safety you can use throughout the year.

Tips for Car Drivers

-Look Twice: Motorcyclists don't take up as much space on the road and are smaller overall. This means that they're harder to see. Making sure you look twice or even three times, especially your blind spots, can help potentially save an accident and even a life.

-Leave Extra Distance: Following close behind a motorcycle can be as dangerous as it is with a full sized vehicle. Just remember motorcyclists are smaller than you and don't have the protection that a car does. Leaving extra distance, even at slower speeds, is important to ensure you have enough room to swerve or suddenly stop should you need to.

-Never Share a Lane: Although this tip seems obvious, it's worth mentioning. Motorcyclists can sometimes drive on the side of the road or closer to one side of a lane. Even if there's enough room, it's never safe or ok to share a lane!

-Make Slow Movements & Use Signals: Along with leaving extra distance, making slower movements may help decrease the chance for an accident. Making slower movements such as changing lanes, turning, backing up, etc. can raise other drivers' and motorcyclists' awareness for what you're going to do. This essentially makes it easier for others on the road to react in a timely matter.

Tips for Motorcyclists

-Always Assume You're Invisible: Drivers won't see you as readily as they would a full size vehicle because you are much smaller overall. This means you must assume you're invisible to other drivers to keep yourself same. Assuming the driver does see you can be a big mistake, especially if you need to make a sudden movement.

-Wear Appropriate Gear: Some states don't require a helmet or other gear necessary for biking. Although it's a personal decision to wear gear or not, it's recommended to suit up. You never know what situation you could get into, so having the right gear to protect all parts of your body is a preventative practice that could potentially save your life!

-Check the Weather Before You Go: Most motorcyclists don't like to ride in the rain for the simple fact of getting wet, or feeling the pain of falling rain. Most importantly, motorcyclists shouldn't ride in the rain simply because it's harder for other drivers to see you. Bad weather also increases the likelihood of an accident by impairing your vision and safety on the road.

-Leave Extra Distance: It's important for drivers to leave extra distance to avoid accidents, but it's just as important for you to do the same! Leaving extra distance may make it easier for a driver to spot you. Because you're not as well protected, it allows you extra time and distance to act quick, should you need to.

Whether it's keeping up with routine maintenance or studying up on tips for motorcycle safety, we want you to be safe on the road always! Although we can't hold your hand and tell you what to do out on the road, we can provide you with excellent maintenance services, reliable vehicles, and great driving advice. First Retail Cadillac CT6 On the Road

First Retail Cadillac CT6 On the Road

TRAVERSE CITY, Mich.––Earlier this spring, in April, the first retail production Cadillac CT6 was auctioned off at the 13th Annual Barrett-Jackson Auction. The auction took place in Palm Beach, Florida to benefit the Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute. The lucky top bidder? Ohio Dealer, David Flynn. He is now the proud owner of the first retail Cadillac CT6 on the road.

David Flynn, hailing from Columbiana, Ohio is a dealer and spent a pretty penny on the new 2016 Cadillac CT6; $200,000 to be exact. Although it was a seemingly hefty price, the money will go to the wonderful Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute located in Detroit, to which GM has a long-standing and successful relationship. In fact, the GM Foundation has donated $500,000 directly to support cancer research at Karmanos. There is even a floor at the Institute names GM Foundation Cancer Research Floor.

Before the auction to benefit the Barbara Ann Karmanos Insitute, David Flynn and his family got to visit the Detroit-Hamtramck Assembly Plant or D-Ham in mid February where the first 2016 Cadillac CT6 rolled off the line just days before. Flynn and family got to meet the CT6 launch team, tour the CT6 Body Shop and General Assembly, got to experience a dynamic vehicle test, meet the CT6 designers, and even take home a sketch autographed by the design team. Flynn's three children will someday enter into his dealership business, while one might get handed down this CT6 in the future.

This first retail Cadillac CT6 has the ever important 001VIN. When the CT6s with higher VINs arrive to dealerships and to the road, you'll want to check it out for a variety of reasons. The exterior has classic Cadillac styling, but is impossible to ignore because of its low stance, vertical light systems, strong lines, and concierge lighting. The interior has been designed for superior comfort and convenience with exquisite materials, extended seats, a Bose Panaray sound system, a wireless phone charging slot, rear infotainment, and rear camera mirror. Not to mention its 3.0L V-6 Turbo engine, which turns out 404-hp for easy acceleration and response.

If you're looking to put a little luxury in your life, Cadillac has just what you want. At Serra Traverse City, we'll help you find the perfect vehicle for your needs and budget. 7 Health Tips for Women

7 Health Tips for Women

TRAVERSE CITY, Mich.––This week is National Women's Health week, which means it's time for a health review and celebration! Your health as a woman is the most important thing in your life and should be treated as a priority. We know the busyness of life can get in the way of following the healthiest regimen, but there are small things we can do to be healthier and live a fulfilling life. In celebration of Women's Health Week, here are 7 health tips for women useful for each and every day.

1. De-Stress As Much As Needed

Feeling overwhelmed by all the things you need to do, or events that have or haven't occurred yet is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to stress. There are so many things little and big that can bring stress into our lives, which can really take a toll on your body and mind, especially your heart. De-stressing can be done in many ways such as exercise, spending time with a pet, or doing a hobby you love. Whatever it is, make time in your schedule to do so!

2. Exercise & Use Weights!

Many might assume that cardio alone is a great exercise to lose weight or stay healthy, but you can be doing much more to elevate your health benefits. Adding weights or resistance (which can include gravity) 3-5 times per week will make your workout much more effective. Not only does it help build core strength, but it also helps your body function better all around throughout your daily movements. You can think of it as preventative maintenance on your body as the stronger your muscles are, the less likely you are to suffer from small injuries or pain.

3. Get A Good Night's Rest Almost Every Night

From worries that keep our minds churning late, to our children that cry in the middle of the night, to physical and emotional pains we might feel, getting sleep can seem like an elusive task. Making sleep seem a little easier can be as simple as putting it on your schedule. Aim to add a half hour or hour to your sleep schedule for the next few weeks. Eventually you'll be in the routine and will have gained extra time to allow your body and brain to refresh while you dream. Adults typically only need about 7 hours of solid sleep. If you're having trouble falling or staying asleep, a discussion with your doctor might be necessary.

4. Visit Your Doctors

Again with the concept of a busy life, it's hard to fit things in. If you think of your health as a priority, however, you won't find visiting the doctor a waste of time or a chore! It's important to not only have a yearly check-up with just your physician, but also your OBGYN, your dentist, and other specialty doctors dependent on your condition. If something's bothering you, don't just Google it, ask your doctor! Most times, you're not alone in whatever is going on. Trust in the medical professionals to assist in making your life both comfortable and fulfilling in a healthy manner.

5. Drink Your Beverages Wisely

As with most health conscious minds, we do recommend drinking lots of water throughout your day. Your body benefits from water in a multitude of ways including better nutrient deliverance, better body temperature regulation, better mood, better digestion, etc. You don't have to drink straight water all day long, coffee and tea count towards your daily water consumption goal. Despite what you may have heard, the amount of water outweighs the caffeine in coffee and tea so they won't actually dehydrate you. Another consideration is limiting your alcohol intake to one drink or none at all both daily to maximize your health, and never drive when drinking!

6. Eat Well & Take Vitamins

This one seem obvious, but it's more important than you think! There's constantly new advice that circulates on what to do and what not to do in terms of health, and some of it is reliable advice and some of it is not. Sticking to time tested advice like get your veggies and fruit in, eat less red meat, eat less processed foods, and limit fat and sugar is the best way to go about eating. In terms of vitamins, a multivitamin can help, while special vitamins or supplements may help other ailments like Omega-3 pills for heart health. It's up to you to do what feels right for your body, and your doctors can help you determine what to do based on your specific needs.

7. Treat Yourself

Our last tip goes along the lines of the first tip. Having self love and showing yourself appreciation from time to time for all the hard work you do is essential to your mental health! Whether it's buying those shoes you really want, having a big cone of ice cream, going on a solo drive with no destination, booking a trip, etc, it'll help you appreciate life through all the stresses and mess.

It's National Women's Health week, but your health is important every single day! By using these 7 health tips for women you can incorporate small steps to improve your overall health. You can also join us this Saturday, May 14th for our inaugural Serra Cares 5K Presented by Serra Traverse City for some good cardio and fresh air to tie up our Grand Opening Week! Just like your body's engine, your car's engine needs maintenance to run well, too. If you're looking for a new car, we can help you find the perfect one in our new, used, or certified pre-owned inventory! Or if you just need routine maintenance done on your vehicle to help you stay safe and running well on the road, we'll be happy to take care of that too.
